Each Monday this month, we’re releasing alternate versions of classic PMJ video in a series called Postmodern Jukebox: Reboxed. It’s always fun for me to hear different voices sing my arrangements, and when it happens on tour it’s resulted in a lot of really amazing, creative moments. Here’s Maiya Sykes tearing the roof off with her powerful vocals on our New Orleans remake of Sam Smith’s “I’m Not The Only One,” originally recorded by PMJ with the amazing Casey Abrams at the mic. I first heard Maiya sing this at our "Postmodern Nights" residency, and was blown away by her ability to completely reimagine the melody. Since then, she's performed this with us throughout Australia as well as in a number of US cities and has always managed to vary her performance each and every time. Of course, the addition of Mike Cottone, Jacob Scesney, and Lemar Guillary on horns added a level of fun and an authentically New Orleans sound to the proceedings.
Jelly Roll Morton and His Red Hot Peppers, one of the great New Orleans jazz bands that inspired this arrangement.
Our Europe tour starts next week!! If you haven't already, check out the list of cities below and reserve your tix here. Happy Monday!
