American Idol alum Vonzell Solomon offered a taste of her knockout vocal prowess in her first go-round with PMJ, a ska-flavored rendition of Smash Mouth’s “All Star.” But this week she really gets to show off what she can do, evoking the late, great Whitney Houston on a soulful remake of the Sting-penned classic “Every Breath You Take.”

True to the title, Vonzell’s performance is absolutely breathtaking! Just wait till the gloves come off (literally!) as the song soars into its soulful finale. There’s more than a hint of gospel in her full-throated approach, which adds a spiritual dimension to the song’s ever-watchful narrator. And whatever you believe in, hearing Vonzell belt this out is pretty close to a religious experience! From Scott Bradlee’s gleaming white garb and sanctified piano playing to the rich vocals from the band’s back-up trio, this is one that’s sure to make your poor heart ache.
