New Video! “Hello” Goes Aretha Franklin-Era Soul feat. Maiya Sykes

Adele has the #1 song in the country with “Hello,” so we recorded our own version with the incomparable Maiya Sykes giving a show stopping performance on vocals.  Watch it below:

If you saw Maiya perform as part of the PMJ cast on the current North American tour, then you may have heard her sing a stripped down, piano and voice version of this arrangement.  For the video, I filled out the sound with a horn chart reminiscent of some of Aretha Franklin's early jazz-influenced records, like Soul '69.  As always, the power in Maiya's voice takes the arrangement to a whole new level.  She doesn't just sing the words; she brings them to life.

One of the most rewarding parts of my job is getting to hear my arrangements played by incredible musicians and sung by world class vocalists- this is a perfect example of why I love what I do.
